So, about the Denizens.

diamond-dangeresque:

Who they are can give us insight as to what part of their planet in the Incipisphere may be. It can also hint at a kid’s classic element.

John’s browser/Denizen is Typheus, considered the “Father to all Monsters,” wife to Echidna, and one of the most fearsome creatures yet (even the Olympian Gods feared him). Descriptions of him vary, but generally he is very dragon-like with half-human features. Both according to John’s browser icon AND the large “minion” Jade had/has in her tower, Typheus’ human half is white like the humans in this series with a lower green half that’s more snake-like than dragon-like. He is responsible both for the thick coat of oil that covers LOWAS’ seas and the clouds that block the fireflies. He controls the wind (known as “The Breeze” according to the salamanders) and reprimands anyone but him who uses it. (For the record, if you want to know more information on him via Wikipedia, his name is technically Typhon. For whatever reason, though, Hussie uses the spelling of Typheus.) Both planets that Typheus was a denizen on has structures representing the Wind: LOWAS has various pipes from which wind blows through with Typheus’ palace looking like a giant pipe organ, and LOSAZ has windmills (also playing into Tavros’ Don Quixote motif). Typheus’ theme is Awakening from Vol. 7: At the Price of Oblivion.

Rose’s browser/Denizen is Cetus (the original spelling is Ketos, but Cetus is also acceptable if you’re looking him up on The Other Wiki), “denotes a large fish, a whale, a shark, or a sea monster. In other words, unlike Typheus/Typhon, Cetus is not a specific creature or monster. According to Rose’s browser icon, it is a creature with the head of a human and the rest of its body looking more like a serpentine fish. Out of all the Denizens, it may be the most monstrous of them all. Because of this, any planet Cetus lives in will have large bodies of water: both LOLAR and LOMAT are essentially giant oceans with small islands dotted on them. Its theme is Earthsea Borealis from Vol. 7: At the Price of Oblivion.

Dave’s browser/Denizen is Hephaestus, one of the twelve Olympians and a god of many things, mainly of forging, technology, fire, volcanoes, and craftsmen. Of the various Denizens, he is the most humanoid (Dave’s browser icon is simply a man with an aura of fire around him) and requests that the Forge be relit so that he may continue forging whatever it is he’s forging. While Dave’s classical element is fire and both his Denizen and his planet are a perfect match, Hephaestus lives in planets where there are materials to create technology with. LOHAC contains many gears amidst the seas and waterfalls of lava while LOQAM contains giant quartz crystals; both gears and quartz are used to make clocks. His theme is Dupliblaze COMAGMA from Vol. 5.

Jade’s browser/Denizen is Echidna, the Mother of All Monsters. It is through her that one obtains the Quills of Echidna needed for Scratching as well as for making bargains should a session not be successfully completed. In Greek mythology, she births many fearsome monsters into the old world, but while Typheus/Typhon is trapped under Mt. Etna, she and her children are kept alive as challenges to future heroes. It was through her that the bargain made by the pre-Scratch trolls are made and it is through her still that Jade’s bargain was made. A statue of Echidna is seen on LOFAF and art of her is displayed in one of her themes. She is, apparently, an armless human with a blue lower snake half (or perhaps multiple snake halves). On her back are huge crystals, known simply as Quills. Of course, Echidna is found on planets with Frogs on them and something impeding their growth/habitation. This one doesn’t even need explaining. Echidna has two themes: her battle theme Gaia Queen (from Vol. 6: Heir Transparent), and her “negotiation theme” Bargaining with the Beast (from Vol 8).

Jane’s browser/Denizen is Hemera, one of the primordial deities and the living embodiment of daytime. She is either the daughter or the sister of Nyx (the embodiment of Nighttime) and Aether (light itself) is her brother/consort. According to her browser icon, Hemera is also humanoid—much like Hephaestus, surprisingly—albeit wearing a sort of orange scarf. Nothing else is known about Hemera, [SPECULATION]but as a Hero of Life, her planet may be similar to Feferi’s in that it is bright/daytime all the time, with or without a strange sky.[/SPECULATION]

Roxy’s browser/Denizen is Nyx, the sister/mother of Hemera. Like Hemera, his browser icon is a humanoid figure with a scarf but mirrored; Hemera’s goes to the right and is orange (representing Prospit?) while Nyx’s goes to the left and is purple (representing Derse?). Lands belonging to Heroes of Void are thrust into perpetual night, or at least, it’s really fucking dark.
